Durenamel

Durenamel is a perfect alternative to hard-fire enamel. Our product starts with a liquid system and cures at a low temperature to a hard, glasslike finish in less than 3 hours.

Durenamel can be ground and polished to perfection. Its strong, durable finish will not crack or chip. Excellent for use on badges and emblems. Durenamel comes in your choice of colors, all remaining true during processing.

Grinding

  1. Use a wet sanding wheel or belt with a 320 or 400 grit, then finish with a 600 grit.
  2. Do not let the piece get hot as this could cause wrinkling or lifting of the epoxy.
  3. Estimated speed of wheel – 1725 RPMs.
  4. Other methods such as wet pumice on a hard wheel or wet sanding stone 220 or 280.

Polishing

  1. Use a standard soft felt wheel at 1250 RPMs.
  2. Use green rouge or plastic polishing compound.  We recommend our Blue Platinum Polishing Compound.
  3. Do not press the epoxy against the polishing wheel.  This could cause the epoxy to burn or cause the epoxy to expand and contract, resulting in the Durenamel popping off the piece.  Use light, soft pressure for best results.
  4. Wheels to be used:  standard gag wheel, 42 ply muslin buffs.

NOTE:  If you are going to plate with the epoxy in the piece, you must put a lukewarm tank (80°F – 85°F) between the first flash and the rinse tank to avoid the epoxy from falling out.
